Players and Cards:
The 29 Card (Tash) game is typically played by four players divided into two fixed partnerships, with partners facing each other. A standard 52-card pack is used in this game, utilizing a total of 32 cards. Each suit consists of eight cards: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. The cards within each suit are ranked from high to low: J-9-A-10-K-Q-8-7. The objective of the game is to win tricks that contain high-value cards.
The point values of the cards are as follows:
- Jacks = 3 points each
- Nines = 2 points each
- Aces = 1 point each
- Tens = 1 point each
- Other cards = Ranked in descending order (K>Q>8>7), but hold no points
Deal and Bidding:
In the 29 Card game online, Deal and Play proceed in an anti-clockwise direction. The cards are distributed in two steps, with four cards dealt on each step. Based on the first four cards received, players bid for the right to choose trumps. The normal bidding range falls between 16 to 28. The bidder with the highest bid chooses a trump suit based on their four cards. The trump card remains hidden from the other players until it is played.
Twenty Nine Gameplay:
The player to the dealer's right leads to the first trick, and all other players must follow suit if possible. The highest card of the suit played wins the trick, and the winner of each trick leads to the next one. Players must follow suit whenever possible, and if unable to do so, they may play a trump card or discard a card from another suit at their discretion.
Scoring:
Once all eight tricks have been played, each team counts the points earned through the cards won. To win, the bidding team must accumulate at least as many points as they bid; otherwise, they lose. Adjustments are made based on any declaration of a Pair, which adds or subtracts 4 points to the bid value. If the bidding team meets their target, they earn one game point; otherwise, they lose one game point. The score for the opposing team remains unchanged.
Miscellaneous Rules:
The game is considered canceled under the following circumstances:
- If the first player dealt does not have any point cards, the cards can be reshuffled
- If any player is dealt 8 cards worth 0 points
- If any player has all four Jack cards
- If any player holds all cards of the same suit
- If the player seated immediately next to the dealer has cards without points
Pair Rule:
When a player holds both the "King and Queen" cards of the trump suit, it is referred to as a Marriage. The Pair Rule (Marriage) modifies the bid value by adding or subtracting 4 points. The pair should only be shown after the trump card has been revealed and either party takes a hand after that point.
Single Hand:
After all the cards have been dealt but before leading to the first trick, a player with exceptionally strong cards may declare a "single hand," committing to win all eight tricks while playing alone. In this case, there is no trump suit, and the player who announced their single hand leads to the first trick. The partner of the lone player places their hand face down and does not participate in the play. If all eight tricks are won, the lone player's team earns 3 game points; otherwise, they lose 3 points.
